Abstract

It has been suggested that two medieval medallions with heraldic lion images with enamel backgrounds, found in the Veliko Tarnovo region and kept in the National History Museum and the National Archaeological Institute with Museum at BAS, respectively, were most likely decorative pendants from horse harnesses. It is assumed that they came to the Veliko Tarnovo region via trade routes. It is also possible, however, that they were brought by Westerners passing through our lands or even that they were produced by Western
craftsmen living in Veliko Tarnovo at the time.
